10 Oct 2014 - Friday - Arrived Wanaka. Beautiful lake, snow capped Mt Aspiring in background. We will be here 6 nights. Should have been 7, but I made a mistake in my calculations and cut us off a day short when I created our itinerary and booked our flights. Oh well, we had decided we could live with it. We are privileged to able to take this trip ... Just one more, we said, and here we are!
Saw come spectacular scenery on the way down here: Look, it's Colorado! Look, it's Highway 101 to Santa Maria! Look, it's the mountain gorge near Denver! Look! Look! Look!
Found the New World Grocery Store in Wanaka. Definitely a hopping place. Lots of young people, families, teens. Got frozen pizza for supper, along with salad.
Had a terrible time getting the TV to work in our condo. It has a "Cox box" (Sky TV), a home entertainment blu ray box, and the TV. Three remotes. Finally was able to get the picture and the program selector to work, but no sound. I got to the point I was pushing buttons on the boxes themselves, and at last found a button on the blu ray, which I didn't think I needed because we weren't going to watch blu ray, and viola! There it was! Sound! (No instructions about this, only the usual owners' manuals which didn't really tell you how to get Sky Channels to work with your system, and how to get the "home entertainment system" to work with the TV and the Sky Channel box.
Had to go back to the store for salad dressing, and we accidentally found the internet cafe. Yay!
Lauren fixed supper, and we gradually settled in and calmed down, nested together on the smaller of two sofas. We have two bedrooms, and we decided our usual arrangement would be good because my sleep patterns are disruptive to Lauren (sleep 4-5 hours, wake and read (or do my internet devotions online, at home, and then maybe, but not often, go back to sleep), so here I am in the wee hours of Saturday morning in my little bedroom of two "singles," journaling away, while I hope Lauren is having a great night's sleep in the double bed in the master bedroom. He needs his rest, and he deserves it.
